The Team
john benning ( driver / co-driver / sponsors & fundraising / administration)
I am currently working for Heli One, at Sola airport, Stavanger, Norway. Born in the U.K, I live in Stavanger. I have served in the Royal Navy and now work as a freelance aircraft maintenance engineer. I am single and father to Alice (11) & Joachim (4).
The prospect of being able to help those less fortunate than myself is the inspiration behind this journey. I am particularly looking forward to arriving in our adopted village and handing over ours and your gifts.
The fantastic adventure we will have getting there is a huge added bonus.
steve mcguinness ( driver / co-driver / navigator / communications)
I am 26 and originally from Morecambe in NorthWest England. I work as an aircraft sheet metal worker in Stavanger, Norway. I have travelled extensively around Europe, Central and South America.
I have a keen interest in cars and motorbikes. My cousin is world record holder and 13 times winner of the Isle of Man TT races, John McGuinness.
I wanted to combine my intrest in motorsport and travel. During my travels in both Central and South America, the poverty that a lot of people there live in both saddened and upset me. It has made me want to do something, no matter how small to help people who were less fortunate than myself. Having seen last years Budapest-Bamako rally on the travel channel, I investigated further and decided to enter, as this would combine my passion for travel and motorsport, but also give an opportunity to help some of the worlds poorest people.
