Finish Party

Getting to the start line:

The official start is from Budapest. As if the journey isnt long enough already, we will travel from stavanger on 6th january so as to be there with a couple of days to spare. This will allow us to meet with the other participants and finalise our preparations.

Planned Route:

The third Budapest-Bamako will follow a route through Hungary, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and Mali. There will be all sorts of roads and weather conditions. To complete the official race route we will be buying a 2nd hand 4WD vehicle from our own savings.

Stages:

After the first couple of days featuring long stretches of European highway we will see some shorter but harder legs. After two to three days of serious driving we will stop for a half-day of rest. On these days we will drive shorter distances.

European Stage:

Budapest is both the physical and spiritual starting point of the Budapest-Bamako (B2). First we will drive from Hungary to Italy. We'll spend the first night in Venice. From here we'll pass through the French Riviera to the East Coast of Spain. We'll cross the Mediterranean from the Spanish port of Tarifa.

Morocco and Western Sahara:

We'll drive through the following major towns and cities: Tangiers, Essauira, Agadir, Tiznit and Tan-Tan. Representatives of the governement of Western Sahara will receive us at a traditional desert campsite for a traditional desert meal.

Mauritania:

The real desert driving will begin in Mauritania, just after crossing the border from Morocco. After two days of intensive driving we'll reach the capital of this amazing country, Nouakchott. The drivers will leave the Atlantic Coast after a little rest in Nouakchott and turn towards the heart of Africa.

Mali:

We bid farewell to the Sahara after crossing into Mali. We'll pass through Kayes and drive through ancient African villages deep into the Sahel region. We'll reach the bustling capital of Mali, Bamako on day 16.
